Tyler Union Team continues to think outside the box for safety

Tyler Union encourages team members to look for ways that they can work safer and more efficiently. Team members submitted several suggestions on how they could improve their TUF Grip gland operation and reduce core setting and grinding times and they listened.  They worked together to improve the entire process which turned out to be the Most Innovative Project in the 2016 McWane Ergo Cup competition last month.

TUF Grip glands are mechanical joint restraints that are used to keep pipe in place in water service systems.  Working as a team they came up with a concept that allows them to set one core per gland instead of multiple cores. This one core has all but eliminated the time consuming grinding on the inside diameter of the gland.  The new procedure cuts costs, reduces the time it takes to produce the product and improves the ergonomic impact on team members performing the job.
