Kennedy Valve Partners with Friends of the Chemung River Watershed

On Saturday, April 27, 50 Kennedy Valve team members joined the Friends of the Chemung River Watershed, Access Midstream in Horseheads, the Chemung County Environmental Management Council and Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Troop 41201 to remove 1,500 pounds of trash along the Lackawanna Rail Trail and nearby Newtown Creek in Elmira, New York.

The Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (LRHT) is a multi-purpose trail that follows the Lackawanna River for forty miles in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The trail begins at the river’s confluence with the Susquehanna River at Duryea and Pittston in Luzerne County. It travels through Lackawanna County and joins the Delaware and Hudson (D&H) Rail-Trail in Simpson. The two trails continue together to Union Dale. From that point, the D&H Rail-Trail extends north to the New York State border.

The LRHT is a wonderful community asset and many people use the trail throughout the year for walking and jogging, bicycling, enjoying nature, exercising their dog, and fitness activities.  But over time, people drop litter and it begins to collect along the trail and in the Creek.  The removal of this litter will make for a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone.
